Chidiebere Onyia, the kidnapped female reporter working with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has regained her freedom, after spending five days in captivity.

The reporter was reportedly kidnapped by unknown assailants on her way back from work at the late hours of Tuesday, February 9.

Nnamdi Omoni, the Public Relations Officer(PRO), River State Police Command, on Sunday, confirmed the released of the kidnapped journalist. Omoni described the release of Onyia as a Valentine gift for her family and well wishers.

Omoni also stated that the journalist had undergone medical examination immediately after she was released from capitivity.

However, the PRO failed to comment on the conditions met to ensure the release of Onyia from her abductors.

It would be recalled that Onyia, a mother of three, was kidnapped away to an unknown destination and whisked away on February 9 on her way back from office. Onyia was reportedly abducted at about 6:30pm when the hoodlums blocked her vehicle at Woji area of Port Harcourt, isolated her and zoomed off.

Many sources also confirmed that the alleged hoodlums who abducted Onyia fired many gunshots sporadically into the air which created tension forcing people to run to different directions before seizing Onyia.
