Oyo State on Monday, 8 February topped the national tally with 88 new cases of Covid-19.

This new figure has brought Oyo State’s total number of cases to 5993 confirmed cases; 4161 have been discharged while 91 deaths have been recorded.

This was announced on the official website of the NCDC on 8 February.

Lagos followed Oyo closely with (86) new cases, out of 643 cases recorded nationwide. It took the confirmed cases in Lagos to 51,771 out of which 44, 993 have been discharged and 344 deaths recorded.

Rivers came third with (55) confirmed cases. In total, 5814 cases have been confirmed in the state, 5065 discharged cases and 86 deaths.

Nationwide, 140, 391 cases have been confirmed with 114, 635 cases discharged and 1,673 deaths recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory

According to NCDC, a total of 744 community recoveries in Lagos State were discharged, 100 in Rivers State, 78 in Plateau State, 72 in Kaduna State and 2 in Benue State.

“The COVID19 pandemic is not yet over, and we must continue to protect ourselves and our country,” DG NCDC, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said while urging Nigerians to comply with Covid-19 guidelines.

He added: “Please continue to avoid large gatherings, wear a face mask, wash your hands regularly and always maintain physical distancing”

Specifics:
The 643 new cases are reported from 19 states- Oyo (88), Lagos (86), Rivers (55), Edo (54), Akwa Ibom (53), Adamawa (52), Plateau (45), Kaduna (41), FCT (34), Kwara (27), Benue (20), Kano (19), Delta (18), Nasarawa (16), Niger (15), Bayelsa (11), Borno (5), Bauchi (2), and Sokoto (2)
