Aston Villa defeated Arsenal on Saturday with a lone goal from Ollie Watkins, making it the first time Aston Villa completed a league double over Arsenal since the 1992/93 league season.

Aston Villa who won 3-0 in the reverse fixture last November. The victory against Arsenal made it the third consecutive wins by Villa against their premier league rivals.

Watkins’ early goal was enough to see off Arsenal and subsequently moved Villa to eighth position on the table. The Aston Villa’s tenth goal of the season came in the 74 seconds of the match. Arsenal, on the other hand failed to create clear chances as they slumped to their second consecutive defeats.

Arsenal’s best chance came from Martin Odegaard, who was brought on in the second half.

Arsenal poor results begin to pile up again, as the defeat against Villa keeps them in tenth position with 31 points.

Recall that Arsenal came into today’s match with a 2-1 defeat in their premier league outing to Wolves. A match which two Arsenal players saw red.
