Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday, February 5, 2021 recorded 9 additional deaths from the Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours.
This was announced on its official website, bringing the country’s death toll to 1641 since the outbreak of the pandemic in February, 2020.
Till date, 137, 654 cases have been confirmed, 111, 639 cases have been discharged across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in the country.
Lagos led with 535 cases in the 1634 cases recorded. In all, Lagos State has so far confirmed 51,128 cases since the pandemic struck. 44, 391 have been discharged with 355 deaths.
FCT followed with 17, 646 confirmed cases, 11, 453 discharged and 127 deaths.
Plateau came third with 8,251 confirmed cases, 7,729 discharged and 55 deaths.
However, 916 community recoveries were discharged across the country. Lagos State had 831 and 85 were recorded in Kaduna State.
Specifics:
The 1624 new cases are reported from 23 states- Lagos (535), Plateau (183), Osun (98), Akwa Ibom (85), FCT (83), Ondo (77), Nasarawa (72), Edo (69), Oyo (63), Rivers (52), Taraba (48), Ogun (44), Borno(31), Kwara (31), Ekiti (30), Benue (25), Kano (21), Niger (21), Kaduna (18), Abia (15), Delta (10), Bayelsa (7) and Zamfara (6).
In a related development, Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr Olurunnimbe Mamora on Friday led members of NCDC to the official handover of the Infectious Disease Care Centre & the Molecular Laboratory, built & equipped at the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo to the agency.
Director General of the NCDC, Chikwe Ihekweazu stated that the agency had built and equipped 4 Infectious Disease Care Centres across the country with 12 others at various stages of development in the last 8 months.
