O’odua activist, Sunday Adeyemo, otherwise known as Igboho, has begged the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi for forgiveness over his outburst in a viral video, saying he was carried away by his emotions.
Igboho, who came under serious attacks from well meaning Yoruba state men after calling the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi names at a virtual town hall meeting he held with the Yoruba in Diaspora Igboho said such utterance shouldn’t have been made to Ooni of Ife or any other King in the Yoruba land.
In the video, Igboho was quoted saying, “the monarchs are now afraid but we must keep praying for them to be united with one voice. They should not be afraid of arrest at their age. Some of them don’t even grant audience at their palaces any longer. So, everything is now in God’s hands.
He added further “when Ooni met with Buhari over the herdsmen issue, Ooni should have told Buhari the truth but he did not. When Ooni returned, he started tackling me to leave the remaining task to the government to finish. You can imagine that kind of talk?
“Ooni disappointed himself. Some politicians are behind Ooni’s latest move. He invited me to his palace but I refused to go. I would have gone if he had represented us well but he did not. I won’t honour any monarch who does not cooperate with me. Enough is enough, the Fulani have done enough,” He said.
However, hours after attacking the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Igboho has begged for forgiveness.
In a video released Wednesday evening, Igboho said, “I have called our father, the Ooni of Ife and I have apologised to him. When I said those things, I was carried away by my emotions. The killing of my people by Fulani herdsmen and the way our fathers in Yoruba land are handling the issue is giving me great concern”
He further added that, “I am a Yoruba man and I know it is not in our culture to insult the elders. I have called the Kabiyesi and I have apologised to him. You can call him to confirm.
“Once again, I want to beg our royal father to forgive me. It was a slip of tongue,” Sunday Igboho said.
Similarly, Ile-Ife-born politician and former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode while reacting to Igboho’s outburst said, “I just spoke with Sunday Igboho and he confirmed to me that what he said about our revered Ooni of Ife was said in the heat of the moment.
“He expressed his regrets and I was relieved to hear that. To err is human and to forgive is divine. I appeal to Kabiyesi to forgive him.
“For the record, let me state clearly and categorically that no Ooni of Ife, whether living or dead, has ever been a slave of the Fulani and neither will they ever be.”
