Following the release of Funke Akindele’s directorial debut film, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, the veteran actress and her hubby, JJCSkillz who’s co-owner of the production company, Scene One Production Studios and co-director of the movie, have gone on to break box office record with the sequel movie.

Within its first three weeks in cinemas across the country, the movie has generated over 500 million Naira to beat four-year record holder, The Wedding Party which generated 453 million Naira in box office revenues.

According to reports by Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) the movie has maintained the number one spot for six weeks in a row, has broken Nollywood’s box office record with a cume revenue of N501,449,050.

It also becomes the first Nollywood movie to premiere in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) with its January 21 premiere at Novos Cinemas in Dubai.

The nearly-three-hours long movie is a follow-up to the 2010-released blockbuster, Omo Ghetto which chronicles the story of a gang of friends who call themselves ‘Askamaya Bees’, led by Lefty (played by Funke Akindele), a ghetto-bred woman who finds herself falling in love, an act which is in contrast to the ‘code of the streets’. The star-studded movie also features appearances by Chioma Akpotha, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Thomas, Timini Egbuson, Nancy Isime, Yemi Alade, Mercy Aigbe, Deyemi Okanlawon and Zubby Michael among other Nollywood stars.
