As investigation into the murder of three police officers begins in Ebonyi, tension has continued to rise among the rank and file of the Ebonyi Police Command following the manner of the attack.

It would be recalled that five causalties were recorded during an attack on Onueke Police Station, Ezza south Local Government by suspected hoodlums.

Three police officers were killed while the other two police officers sustained serious bullet wounds.

The suspected hoodlums stormed the police station on Friday night. They also made away with two Ak 47 rifles owned by the officers.

Two male officers and a female officer lost their lives to this gory incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer(PRO) of Ebonyi State, Loveth Oda, confirmed this incident. Oda also confirmed that the two injured officers are receiving treatment at the hospital.

While speaking on the matter, Stanley Okoroemegha, the Commissioner for Internal Security of the state, said the government was shocked by the incident. He also issued a 48-hour ultimatum to security agencies in the state to brief the government on how hoodlums breached the police station without any intelligence foreseeing it.

It would be recalled also that there have been cult clashes in Onueke area of Ebonyi in recent times.

Many had said there might be a connection between the incidence of cult clashes and the massacre that happened in the police station.

Checks reveal that no arrest has been made regarding the incident as at the time of filing this report.
