The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday recorded 1,664 new cases of the coronavirus in the country.

The figure set new record as the highest number of cases ever recorded in one day since the virus was first reported in the country on February 27.

The latest figureĀ surpassed the 1,354 casesĀ recorded across the country on Tuesday, confirming that Nigeria is experiencing a second wave of coronavirus.

The NCDC confirmed this on its verified Twitter account. Five deaths were also recorded in Nigeria.

The NCDC stated that the new infections bring the country’s total to 94,369.
