Outright sack or demotion axe dangles over top staff of the Cross River State ministry of Local Government Affairs if they fail to remit Local government salaries by close of work on Friday 20th December 2019.

 Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade who threatened  that he would not hesitate to resort to severe punishment against authorities in the Ministry of Local Government said he was displeased with the state of affairs at the Ministry given the fact he had made funds available to the Ministry since early November for payment.

The governor who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Christian Ita,   directed the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, the Auditor-General for Local Governments, the Director of Administration and the Director of Accounts to ensure the immediate payment of salaries for the affected staff.

A source in the Cross River State Civil Service  confirmed that the local governments workers union did not threaten any protest against the government before the ultimatum.

“I think the governor is embarking on this stern action out of his good nature to ensure most Cross Rivererans enjoy the Christmas season.” the source said.
